The gallery to the left shows 4 stages of the restoration
Like it Was Taken Yesterday ...
Since the original scan is just 80x50mm, it was scanned at 1200dpi so that all of the available detail is captured. This makes sure that there is enough high quality texture to recreate the missing background.
A stunning new image from a badly taken photograph
In the Back Yard 1939
The photograph was rotated, using the window frame as a guide. A new image area was marked out to show which parts of the background had to be recreated. The final image was then enhanced to give more depth to the picture.

The original image
is just 80x50mm
This photograph needed several different techniques to bring what is a wonderful picture back to life. Instead of simply cropping the picture, which would lose most of this wonderful nostalgic scene, the image was rotated straight, thoroughly cleaned, restored, and then the missing background area was recreated.
The complete project was finished in just over an hour. The experience gained by working daily on many images means that I can work not just quickly, but with great accuracy. The goal of any image project like this, is to produce both an authentic picture, and an outstanding frameable photograph.
