The stories behind some family photographs make restoring them much more than just an exercise in producing a great image.

This is the last portrait taken in 1919 of Annie Mary Baker. Her visit to a Portsmouth photographic studio wasn't prompted by vanity, but by her desire to leave this last image for her five children to remember her by.

After her death in 1920 the portrait suffered this unfortunate damage. We will never know if it was by accident or design, but the effect is quite devastating for those wanting to remember her as she was.

Without any other photographs from the same time to refer to, the image was restored using the vast experience gained from undertaking many similar badly damaged images.
